Historic 1925 Caretaker’s Hut Reborn as Eco-Support Station for Sunset Peak
The key structure of the Caretaker’s Stone Hut – strategically located at Lantau Mountain Camp – will be revitalized as a ‘Support Station’ to facilitate conservation initiatives in the Sunset Peak area. The restoration involves repairing dilapidated exterior features restoring interior elements, and making necessary functional upgrades while preserving the building’s historic facade. Key improvements include installing solar power systems, rain water filtration, and waterless toilets, alongside the functional furniture to facilitate the conservation researches and activities.
The Caretaker’s Hut was built in 1925 and had been disused for over 30 years. Restoring the strategically located Caretaker’s Hut of the Camp as a working “Support Station” will facilitate pilot conservation research for public benefit. The structure features a flat “L”-shaped layout comprising four functional zones: an entrance lobby, a rest area (equipped with bunk beds), a storage room, and a toilet facility.
